Historical Background

Originally formed as St. Mark’s (West Gorton) in 1880, then changing its name to the Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887, Manchester City F.C. adopted its present name in 1894. The club is one of the biggest and best in the world, and Manchester City live streams are currently very popular among fans who aren’t able to get to games in person or watch Man City on TV.

The team has been based at the City of Manchester Stadium (also known as the Etihad Stadium) since 2003. For the eighty years prior to that, Manchester City played at Maine Road stadium, which has since been demolished.

Manchester City are often referred to simply as City or Man City, and also as the Cityzens and the Sky Blues. The team has won the top tier (First Division which became known as the Premier League) of the Football League on five occasions at the time of writing, and the second tier (Second Division which became known as the First Division) seven times.

Club Badge and Colours

The club badge of Manchester City is circular, and displays a shield which bears the image of a ship and the red rose of Lancashire. The date 1894 appears on the badge, which is when the club came to be known as Manchester City, as mentioned earlier.

The colours of Manchester City are sky blue and white (hence the Sky Blues nickname) and the home strip comprises a sky blue shirt with white shorts and blue socks. The current away strip is made up of a dark blue shirt with thin green and sky blue vertical lines, dark blue shorts and green socks. A third strip of maroon shirt and shorts with orange socks is also used.

Key Players and Managers

Manchester City are managed by Josep 'Pep' Guardiola, who took up the role in 2016. Previous managers include Manuel Pellegrini, Roberto Mancini, Sven-Göran Eriksson, Kevin Keegan and Joe Mercer.

Key former players for Manchester City include Fernando, Gaël Clichy, Yaya Touré, Carlos Tevez, Joe Hart, Joey Barton, Joe Corrigan and Sir Matt Busby.
