EURO 2024 Croatia vs Italy June 24th: All you need to know

A heavyweight clash is in store for the final round of the group stages in what many had labelled as the ‘Group of Death’. The game between Croatia and Italy will be played out simultaneously with Spain’s clash against Albania. All is still to play for in this game, with both Italy and Croatia having a chance of going through to the knockouts.

After an impressive turnaround on the opening day, Italy delivered a weak performance where they ended up losing 1-0 to Spain. As a result, they’ll need a draw at the very least to get through the group. Luckily for them, Croatia have had a highly disappointing two games so far, after being demolished by Spain in the opener, and failing to see out a win against Albania in the second game.

Croatia vs Italy: Match Preview

Croatia and Italy are two nations that always have high expectations upon entering a tournament, both internally as well as from fans back home and in the ground. Being eliminated in the group stages would undoubtedly be considered a massive failure for both sides. Italy are the more likely of the two to advance, with Croatia only earning a point out of a possible six. A win is a must for them to progress.

Croatia’s performances have not been the best, to say the least. However, it must be said that despite the 3-0 scoreline against Spain, they were competitive in that game. Additionally, they displayed a togetherness against Albania, but conceded far too many chances and switched off at the end for the equaliser. As a result, Croatia are now in a tough spot with just a point to their name, coming as a shock to many viewers.

After a strong comeback against Albania in their opener, Italy took a step back against Spain. This was their first real test in the tournament and it ultimately proved to be too much for them. It remains to be seen whether Italy will grow as a side in the next game or whether they’ll fall short. One of their main issues is their lack of a world class striker, with Gianluca Scamacca still not getting on the scoresheet.
