Portugal Leave it Late Against Czech Republic

In a night that will only be remember by Portugal fans for the three points it served up, Ronaldo and his teammates will certainly remember the performance and will want to show vast improvements against Turkey on Saturday.

Ronaldo himself didn’t contribute much on the night, missing two opportunities in the first half. Eventually, Czech Republic took the lead in the 62nd minute courtesy of a striker from Lukas Provod. At this point, things seemed to be going from bad to worse for Roberto Martinez’ side.

However, Czech Republic did not manage to hold onto the lead for too long, conceding an own goal just a few minutes later, much to the relief of the Portuguese. Francisco Conceicao then came on late and scored a stoppage-time winner in the 92nd minute after reaching a deflected cross from Pedro Neto. This was very much a win with a lot of luck involved and with little left to be desired about the performance. Martinez will need to figure out a way to bring out the best of Ronaldo and co. if they wish to cement first place with a win against Turkey.

Turkey Win Convincingly Versus Georgia

On the other hand, Turkey offered up a very convincing and exciting display against Georgia, winning 3-1 and scoring a couple of worldies in the process. Arda Guler in particular stood out with a stellar performance and a long-range curling effort that ended up in the top corner.

Despite Georgia being a much weaker side than the Czech Republic, Turkey showed what they are really about in that game and will definitely cause Portugal some problems on Saturday night. If Ronaldo remains too isolated in the game it could nullify their attacking threat, allowing chances for Turkey to score on the counter as they did with their third goal against Georgia.
