Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have both made reasonable starts to the new Premier League season, with each side likely to be aiming for a finish in the top half of the table this term.

Palace lost at St James’ Park last term and their only victory this season came in front of their own fans, suggesting it could be a tricky task for them to take all three points on Saturday afternoon. Isak gives Magpies fresh impetus

Newcastle’s spending has been surprisingly restrained since the club’s long-awaited takeover, but the club record signing of Alexander Isak has got supporters on Tyneside feeling giddy about the future.

As if excitement levels around the Sweden star were not high enough, the striker promptly scored the opening goal on his Premier League debut on Wednesday night, though Liverpool came back to win 2-1.

Newcastle are winless since the opening weekend defeat of newly promoted Nottingham Forest, a run that has seen Eddie Howe’s side slip back into the bottom half of the table.

But having given both Manchester City and Liverpool a game in the last week or so, there are positive signs that Newcastle could launch a charge towards European qualification this season.
