History on the World Snooker Championship

The World Snooker Championship was formed way back in 1927 by a man named Joe Davis. The historic tournament started out as a simple ‘challenge match’ and then evolved into a knockout tournament in 1969. The World Snooker Championship has been held at numerous venues throughout its history but has taken place at the Crucible Theatre every year since 1977. Today, the tournament has a worldwide audience, and has seen some incredible professional snooker players take part, including the likes of Ronnie O’Sullivan and Stephen Hendry.
